Gmail can now find if your friends are sleeping or awake: "
Gmail Labs has introduced a new feature called Sender Time Zone that can tell if the receiver of your mail might be sleeping or is awake.

How To Turn On the Sender Time Zone Lab Feature?

  • Open Gmail and click on the settings link. Then click on the labs tab.

  • Once in the labs, scroll down to find the Sender Time Zone feature. Enable it and save the settings.

Once this feature is enabled, you’ll notice green phone icons next to your contacts who are awake (that is, it is between 9 AM and 6 PM in their time zone) and red phone icons in front of those contacts who are probably sleeping.

How it Works?

Every email message contains a header which contains all the information about the sender and the receiver, like IP addresses, time zone information etc. Gmail uses the time zone information from these headers to display these icons

Nokia intend to streamline the new UI but cutting scrolling rates from 15fps to 6fps, as well as adding more functionality, and cutting down the number of taps you have to make to perform a particular task.

As you can seen from the renders in the photos, the concept phones featured have large capacitive displays, something that Nokia intends to bring to new handsets in 2010.

It will be interesting so see what Nokia comes up with when they release the new Symbian UI, and whether or not it was a good idea for them to stick with Symbian instead of switching all their handsets to Maemo.

How To Open Files With Unknown File Extensions: "

Many a times you might have received files with unknown file extensions or downloaded the files with extension for which you don’t have a corresponding software.

A filename extension is a suffix to the name of a computer file applied to indicate the file format of its contents. While many file extensions like .txt, .doc, .xls, .png etc. are quite common on windows, many may not be aware of files with extensions such as .gan, .abt, .mpp and others.

When you double click such files, it bring up the unknown file dialog box, where you can choose to pick a program from a list, by choosing the radio button “Select the program from a list” and clicking “OK”. But if none of the appropriate programs to open the file are listed, use OpenWith.org which is extremely useful.

OpenWith.org is a database of free programs to open such unknown file extensions. It provides a desktop client that lets you search for free software that you can download, to open files of unknown file types.

Download OpenWith.org desktop tool

After installing this tool, whenever you right-click on a file you’ll find, “OpenWith.org – How do I Open This?”. Click that and the tool searches for a suitable free program to open it. An active internet connection is required. If the program you want to use isn’t already installed, click on the Download link and voila! The program will be downloaded.
